What’s New in 2016.2 modules

Lithology Module

Energistics lithology and qualifier library is available for lithology interpretation and loading workflows. This elevates Techlog to industry standard pattern rendering.
Lithology and qualifier patterns embedded in the Energistics catalog are a donation from Shell 2014.


Natural neighbor algorithm implemented: fast and easy mapping (no parameter) for rapid 2D analysis in unconventional cases
Saves the point set used for mapping
Exports saved point sets as Xml for use outside Techlog
Graphical extraction buffer using lines: width value kept when duplicating maps


Integrates the NMR Suit plugin menus within the menus of Techlog native NMR modules
The plugins must be activated when starting Techlog. If deactivated later on, Techlog restart will be required in order to work with the plugins again


Adds the “Keep previously computed values” option
Improves the endpoints polygone management when working with more than one zone
Improves the unit and family assignment of the outputs
Includes the mud filtrate density in the computation of the formation fluid density parameter


Techmath enables the following algorithms in multi-well processing:
Cumulating, Integration (allowing you to define the direction to start from the top or bottom of the zone)
Log rescaling
Smooth with missing values


Indonesia resistivity equation. It uses shale resistivity as the input instead of bound water conductivity
Monte-Carlo distribution arrays are now generated for Quanti.Elan outputs such as porosity, water saturation
Combiner outputs have descriptions assigned to them
In the Component specification tab, the component end points do not get swapped among various measurement columns anymore. Moreover, the choices of Yes/No do not get changed to 1/0 anymore in the “Activate” column. This avoids facing corrupted models.
Reymer-Hunt-Gardner compressional slowness equation now correctly uses the internally computed fluid and matrix slowness values
Quanti.Elan Monte Carlo has not been migrated to the new unit system. It still works with the undefined unit system
Quanti.Elan supports the defined Techlog unit systems. Computational issues could be encountered in customized unit systems where measurement units are different from those in Techlog unit systems.

3D Petrophysics Vertical (3DPV)

Coming soon. The module has been developed in 2016.2 but it will be commercialized in a future version.


Inclinometry QC has been made available to Techlog Acoustics license holders. The feature has also been integrated under the Acoustics toolbox of Techlog Acoustics module

Rock Physics

Pseudo-Gassmann fluid substitution: the fluid substitution can be performed with wellbore data not containing shear slowness/velocity. The approach is based on the Mavko et al approximation
Rock models: Walton, Differential Effective Medium, Bounding Average, Berryman Self Consistent
Infill substitution: Ciz-Shapiro

Wellbore Imaging

Performs the processing, post-processing, texture analysis and dip handling functionality for the new Antares MRI Resistivity Imager tool
Image processing wizard builds and runs a standard image processing workflow for the Antares MRI Resistivity Imager tool and FMI HD SLIM tool
Displays better the tBar menu with the Advanced Borehole Geology plug-in
Change in zonation top/bottom does not modify Histogram Equalization parameters

Cased hole

RST Three phase holdup log method moved from RST pre processing to Answers group

Wellbore Integrity

Cement and Pipe Evaluation does not support the new wellbore schematic
Porosity can now be computed from the minerals composition. Bug #578310

Production Logging

Cross section profile plot
o New display bubble mode available
o Right-click contextual menu available from the plot
o Sensor name can now be displayed on the plot
Axial Section profile plot
o Right-click contextual menu available from the plot
o Improved display with well direction
Inverted profile display bug is fixed

Saturation Height Modeling

Multi well/multi dataset workflow is now possible in SHM core build model thanks to the addition of filters in the mnemonic family selection window. A filtering variable can be used for each dataset and is available in the best fit and model multi-well array array cross-plots.
In Core Build Model, a new property is available from the Display options > Cross-plot array: Automatic adjustment. If this option is unchecked, any zoom on the best fit or model cross-plot is kept and does not reset as previously.

Pc modeling legacy and Saturation height legacy methods are not accessible from the Reservoir ribbon anymore. Legacy workflows saved in 2015.3 and prior can be opened in Techlog 2016.1.

The legacy methods will not be supported anymore from 2017.1 version. It is recommended to stop using the legacy methods from 2016.1 as workflows will not be usable from 2017.1.


In Gradient Analysis, when color by mobility is selected, the Mobility palette at User, Project, Company or Techlog level is applied. It is no longer reset to default.
The bugs in real-time for Pretest Interpretation have been fixed. Some refresh issues might still be experienced but the real-time is now enabled in the method.


Improvements to Sand management sensitivity analysis:
o Defines parameter inputs using minimum value, maximum value and number of steps
o Modifies the values comprising the single depth plot
Results are now automatically saved into pre-defined groups
Gardner method has been moved from overburden stress methods to density method and the possibility to compute overburden stress has been removed
The order of minimum and maximum (min < max) stress in the wellbore stability calculation is enforced
Pore Pressure does not fully support Canadian and Russian units system. This will be fixed in 2017.1.
